26.2, the words of accomplishment, motivation, and endurance. Make yourself proud with an accomplishment that you’ll remember for a lifetime. With proper training and tools you will be ready for your first or next marathon before you know it.
Here are 9 tips to help you become marathon ready;
1. Workout Plan:
The most important thing for running a marathon is proper preparation. Choose a training program that is perfect for you, and get to work. This will have you feeling prepared on race day.
Chose a running shoe that is comfortable for your feet and joints. Make sure to break them in before race day to prevent blisters.
*Our favorite shoe to run a marthon in is Altra Zero Drops.
3. Heart Rate Monitor:
Running with a heart rate monitor can help you with your pace and to stay in your target zone.
4. Find A Marathon Partner:
Finding someone to run a marathon with can help you stay motivated through your entire training.
5. Sign Up and Pay:
Once you have swiped your credit card and signed up for a race you’re more likely to follow through with your goals.
6. Take it One Mile at a Time:
26.2 can be an intimidating number on day 1. Focus on the number of miles you have to run that day and that day only. Each day when you are done you will feel more prepared for the upcoming mileage, and on race day 26.2 will seem like a piece of cake.
7. Run the Exact Route:
If you are on an iFit enabled machine, map out different stages of the course so you know what to expect before you even get there.
8. Stay Mentally Strong:
If you tell yourself you can do it, you can do it. Stay mentally strong throughout the race and never doubt yourself. It may help to break up the race into stages in your head.
9. Cool Down:
On race day make sure to cool down properly to help with a quicker recovery time. It is also important to hydrate correctly.
Now go sign up and start training for your next marathon. You won’t regret it.
