So can you get a six pack just by doing hundreds and hundreds of crunches, what about if you use one of those AB machines that you see in an infomercial? Well if you are one of these people or both, i hate to break it down to ya, but you just wasted your money and time. First lets breakdown the parts of the abdominals (six-pack), you have the rectus abdominus (located in the front), the transverse abdominus, (deepest layer) the external and internal obliques (which are located on each sides of your trunk), these muscles help you twist, bend, turn, etc. These muscles assist you in sitting tall, walking tall, getting out of bed and so on. Which is why having strong abdominal muscles are so important in daily activities. So that is the abdominal anatomy 101.
You can spend a lifetime doing crunches and still won't see the six pack. You will of course build the abdominal muscles underneathe the fat but for them to be visible you have to take it up a couple of notches. In order to obtain the six pack, washboard, etched look you have to incorporate low fat diet and some kind of cardio exercise along with crunches and other abdominal exercises. You don't have to train the abdominals everyday, all it takes is 3 times a day and 10-15 minutes each time. The abdominals are just like any other muscles of the body, they need to recover after you train them, so it is wise to rest them for a day or two after you train them. There are different types of training programs for the abdominals, as for myself, i like to train them M-W-F, I hit the rectus, transverse, and obliques each day and superset them each time. For example, I'll target the rectus and transverse with one exercise then hit the obliques with the next exercise, then back to the rectus and transverse. I'll do 3 supersets with 3-4 exercises then do cardio for 15-20 minutes, go home and eat a balance meal of protein, carbs, and healthy fats. Of course if you want to train them everyday, some train the rectus and transverse one day then the next day they train the obliques and repeat the other days. But if you're like me i get bored doing abs everyday.
So yes you can get a six pack by doing hundreds and hundreds of crunches and other abdominal exeercises just remember to follow a low fat balance diet and perform some sort of cardio exercise. Remember "it's not how many hours you put it in, it's what you put in the hours." Always choose the Correct Training Regimen and train to succeed.
