Boston Marathon® Athlete: Alexandra Pugh

READ TIME:1 min.

As we gear up for the excitement of the Boston Marathon®, we’re highlighting each of the athletes our team chose to head to Beantown! We received so many heartfelt stories from applicants, and it was excruciatingly difficult to only pick 13. Each story truly inspired us, and we think they’ll inspire you too! While we’re still weeks out from the race, we wanted to share each person’s story before the big day.

Working on qualifying for the Boston Marathon® since 2018 and missing race entry by small margins, iFIT member Alexandra Pugh was feeling down on her luck. With the help of iFIT, she’s now headed to Boston to finally run the race of a lifetime!

Alexandra’s story

I qualified to run the Boston Marathon® in 2018 with a time of 3:28:42. This was the FIRST marathon I had ever run! Unfortunately, I still missed the cut-off by about 17 seconds. So many runners qualified that the marathon committee could not let in all the qualifiers and still had to make cuts. I was so disappointed. I then saw the Boston Marathon® running workout series with iFIT Trainer Ashley Paulson in the iFIT Library. I was so pumped! I completed the running workout series, dreaming of the day I would be able to run the Boston Marathon®.

2020 and 2021 have been very discouraging years for the running community, as COVID-19 has forced race cancelations across the country. I applied for the 2021 Boston Marathon® again with my 2018 qualifying time due to the limited number of races over the past year. I did not qualify and was so upset. Through this opportunity, iFIT is helping me fulfill a lifelong dream. Until then, I will continue training with my favorite iFIT Trainers, Ashley Paulson and John Peel!
