As we gear up for the excitement of the Boston Marathon®, we’re highlighting each of the athletes our team chose to head to Beantown! We received so many heartfelt stories from applicants, and it was excruciatingly difficult to only pick 13. Each story truly inspired us, and we think they’ll inspire you too! While we’re still weeks out from the race, we wanted to share each person’s story before the big day.
Meet Peter Smith—an iFIT member who is running in remembrance of a dear friend. After joining our community earlier this year and getting into the best shape of his life, Peter is ready to take on Boston!
Peter’s story
Running the Boston Marathon® would be in epic remembrance of a college housemate that I lost last year. During the pandemic, Carlos was playing pickleball and tragically had a heart attack. He later died, leaving a widow and two young kids. As a dad and close friend, his loss significantly impacted me—not just because it was during the pandemic, but also because of the soul searching it led me to do. I recognized that I was unhappy with my weight, and when my kids were teenagers, my life had not been perfect. Now four years sober and continuing to improve my life in my mid-forties, I promised Carlos’ spirit that I’d pick up the torch for being active.
I subscribed to iFIT earlier this year and have continuously earned the 5K medals and magnets from the monthly workout Challenges. I am now in the best shape of my life. Running the Boston Marathon® is a tribute to Carlos. I know in my heart that, either way, he’d give me knuckles and be proud of me.
