Happy Mother's Day to all you amazing moms out there. You are strong, hard-working, loving, and selfless heroes. While being a mom is such a rewarding gift, it is hard work! Sometimes, all we want for Mother's Day is some quiet time, a pint of Ben & Jerry's, a book, and a nice, warm bath.
With that, we encourage you to take the time for yourself this year and enjoy a lovely at-home spa session. After your delicious Mother's Day brunch, grab that book and that ice cream and make your way to your bathroom for some DIY treatments.
Most of the items needed are inexpensive, can be found in your pantry or fridge, and don't contain the nasty ingredients found in many store-bought products.
Pro tip: I love to follow up a relaxing pamper day with a nice, long stretching session. I turn on whatever television show I'm watching, put on my most comfortable leggings, and take the time to really stretch out.
Give these fun, DIY spa recipes a try and treat yourself to a relaxing day that is all about you!
This hair mask contains four magical ingredients that will make your hair soft, shiny, and drenched with moisture.
The ingredients:
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and apply liberally to your hair, starting from the lengths of your hair and working up toward the roots. Tie your hair up on top of your head, then leave the mask on for 30–45 minutes. When finished, shampoo and condition as normal. For longer hair, double the recipe!
Plump and smooth your lips with this incredibly easy-to-make lip scrub. I love storing this in the fridge and using it each morning.
The ingredients:
Mix all of the ingredients together and store in a container. Take a little bit on your finger and work the mixture onto your lips until they feel silky smooth. Wipe off the excess...or you can just lick your lips!
This scrub is the perfect way to slough off all that dry skin that has accumulated over the winter. The caffeine in the coffee temporarily tones and tightens the muscle tissue, leaving your skin looking smooth and rejuvenated.
The ingredients:
Melt the coconut oil in the microwave and allow it to cool but not solidify. Mix all the ingredients together and store in an air-tight container. Massage the mixture all over your body and breathe in the delicious smell of coffee. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer, and you're good to go!
If you're anything like me, the winter months and lack of sleep have left my skin dull and dehydrated. This mask may sound like a grocery list for a Mother's Day breakfast, but the ingredients are actually amazing for hydrating and nourishing your skin.
The ingredients:
Mix all of these ingredients together and apply to a clean face. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes, rinse off, then apply your favorite moisturizer.
Honey is a natural humectant, which means that it helps your skin retain tons of moisture without feeling greasy. The oats will moisturize and soothe your skin, reducing the appearance of redness and flakiness. Plus, the avocado is packed full of healthy oils that will leave your skin feeling supple and smooth. I absolutely love this mask and notice an immediate difference in my skin's texture and appearance.
Have a relaxing, fun, and enjoyable Mother's Day this year, filled with laughter, great memories, baby-soft skin, and shiny hair!
