Tips for Working Out (and Working) from Home
For many people, we are adjusting to a “new normal” right now. That may mean working from home while also finding ways to stay active in a home environment. Here are some tips to get you started on your new routine.

Get moving.
Now, more than ever, it is important to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. The Center for Disease Control recommends 150 minutes of moderate-to-intense activity each week to get the most out of your physical activity. Regular physical activity has incredible benefits, including decreasing your risk of heart disease and stroke and even reducing your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Getting up and moving your body creates a great sense of accomplishment, too!

Stick to a schedule.
As human beings, we are all creatures of habit. Working from home means creating new habits and routines that help with productivity. In fact, sticking to a routine can decrease your stress levels and even help encourage your family members to adhere to a routine. Making time for exercise is an important part of your routine, so scheduling a workout is a key component of creating a daily schedule that works for you.

Take care of yourself.
It might feel like you’re being pulled in several directions right now, but it’s important to make time to focus on yourself. It’s normal to feel stressed, so finding productive ways to deal with stress is so important. Focus on self-care and doing things that make you feel happy, like reading a book, exercising, or just spending quality time with your family. Caring for yourself will help you take care of others.

Focus on nutrition.
A healthy diet that includes a good balance of fruits, vegetables, protein, and whole grains is a key component of overall health. Now is a great time to try out new recipes for your family or to incorporate healthy meal replacement options into your diet. Overall health and wellness starts with good nutrition to fuel your body, and it’s an important part of your daily routine, too!

Be adaptable.
Did you have a bad day or a schedule that didn’t quite go according to plan? No problem! Adjusting to a new routine won’t go perfectly the first time, and there’s always room for adjustment. Just take it one day at a time and focus on what matters most: you and your family’s health.
