The requirements of the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act 2022 (the PSTI Act) have applied since 29 April 2024. The PSTI Act regulates consumer connectable products so that users are protected from cyber harm such as loss of privacy and personal data.
What does the PSTI Act require?
The PSTI Act introduces specific requirements relating to the supply of most consumer connectable products.
Where we manufacture NordickTrack, ProForm and Free Motion branded products and devices which are covered under the PSTI Act, we must, from 29 April 2024:
- ensure that any pre-installed password is unique per product or defined by the user of the product;
- inform users as to where they can report security issues with their product;
- provide users with information regarding the minimum length of time during which their product will receive security updates; and
- produce and ensure that each product is accompanied by a statement of compliance, which contains prescribed information.
How does it affect me?
As a consumer, there’s nothing you need to do. The PSTI Act applies to all manufacturers, importers and distributors of most consumer connectable products - like us - and asks for compliance with certain security requirements. This is intended to make things safer for you, as a consumer.
